The Suffolk Regiment

In the tradition of British military
the names of the regiments of infantry
correspond to the region of origin
raising the troop.

In 1944, The First Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, heir to a long glorious military past both in Europe and further afield, was given the difficult task of capturing on June 6th two strong points positioned beyond the landing beaches and liberate the village of Colleville sur Orne.

This successful action has led to recognition of the link between the inhabitants of the town and the regiment.
